So, I was a tad bit amused when I came across Washington state’s attempt to brand marijuana and the real quick rise and fall of their efforts. Washington legalized marijuana last year. By law, any products that include marijuana as an ingredient must be clearly marked for the public.

An in-house designer for the state’s Liquor Control Board created this logo:

washington-marijuana trademark attorney

I promise. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

After receiving backlash from concerned citizens and organizations such as Children’s Alliance, the State Liquor Control Board decided to toss the logo and start from scratch (thank goodness).

The lesson?

Even though the moves you make may be perfectly legal you cannot forget about that good ole thing called “common sense.”

Do you agree that this was a case of branding gone real bad?
