Like everyone else, I am thrilled for 2013. I am excited for what the new year beholds and ready to work and receive all of the great things in store. This year will be amazing for everyone I know, including you! There is such a buzz of excitement, hard work, risk taking and fearlessness like never before.
Preparing for 2013 has looked much different than in any other year.
This year….
I focused only on getting my physical space in order and organized like none other (home and office). I believe that everything else will flow. I am organized in business, but my personal space is often a wreck – and to be honest, it f@#’s with my zen. It’s my greatest flaw and I am committed to fixing it once and for all.
So far, I’ve done the kitchen, coat closet, living room and home work space. I am continuing the remaining spaces over the next week. By no means am I a professional, fancy-titled organizer, but wanted to share a few things that I’ve done so far:
-Made sure everything has a home.
-Repurposed the containers that I own instead of buying new organizing “tools.” For example, I used an empty watch case to store paper clips, unused photo albums for dvds, a large candle holder as a remote caddy and two glass vases to roll and store my belts.
-Collected and organized contact business cards. My goal is to scan all my business cards, but reality doesn’t allow me the time to get to it right away. I used one of my many journals to tape two biz cards per page. I left the margins for notes on how I met them and follow-up contacts. I will keep a business card journal for each year. At the end of the year, any contacts that I connected with will then get scanned for quick access.
-Got a grip on my magazine collection. I am a magazine hoarder. I got rid of all old magazines and designated one bin for important issues that I want to keep for the year. If there are articles I want to archive, I may keep a clipping journal (I love journals) or archive it electronically.
This year, I worked with my nephew on his resolutions because I think that it’s important that he resolve to become better each year, and resolutions are a great start for an 8 year old.
What did I do?
Instead I created a theme for the year.
BALANCE AND ORDER.
All of my actions for the year, will be checked against that simple theme that encompasses where I want to improve in 2013. Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in planning for the new year. I am a planning nerd! I’ve done vision boards, spreadsheets and everything in between.
Stay tuned for my next post on the nifty planning tool I purchased for 2013. My friends and I will use it to collaboratively plan for our year of success in all aspects of life.
What did you do to prep for the New Year? What is your theme? Please share below.
